The Road part 2

A few weeks into their voyage, their food supplies began to dwindle. Asos, the captain, decided that they would eventually stop for food as soon as they came upon an area that might still have wildlife. They were searching for a source of water, when they came upon what looked like an orchard. They could hardly believe it, a fruit orchard in these times in the middle of nowhere? What are the odds? They began to pick and eat the fruit. "Looking for the gate are you?" a voice from behind startled them. It was an old Seacean. "Old man what are you doing way out here?" Asos asked. "I was part of the 3rd expedition to the North," he replied, "All of my crew except myself died from starvation on the way to the gate, I was returning back when I found this withered old farm, so I restored it and have been living here ever since."

"You've been here for 48 years!?" One of the crew asked shockingly, "Yes, and if you plan on making it to the gate, I suggest you take as much food as you can, and leave a few members of your crew behind." "Leave my crew behind? Why?" Asos asked. "I saw another group move past this place a few years back, the 5th expedition I believe, they were dying, so I fed them. They gave up and decided to return back to the village." the old man explained. "They returned? We never once have gotten word from an expedition team. That would mean..." Asos trailed off. "Please, heed my advice, if you're not going to turn back, leave some of your crew behind here to stay with me on this farm, or perhaps even turn back towards the village, do you really think you can feed the 7 of you all the way to the gate?" "...." "This road is longer than you could possibly imagine, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you are indeed the last hope for our people, then I say, godspeed to you all."

3 of the crew stayed behind with the old man, the rest took as much fruit and water as they could possibly carry, and continued on their journey.
