The Man from the Sky part 1

Valen slouched lazily on his sofa, flipping the channels on his television. He took another smoke from his poherma pipe. Poherma is an illegal substance which, when smoked, gives a feeling of extacy, and in sleep, gives you wild and vivid dreams. Although illegal, the ancients were know to partake of this substance during ceremonies for prophetic visions. Valen was a vendor of this substance, but that was all about to change. Looking out his window, he spotted an unmarked vehicle, he had seen it before when his previous vendor had been arrested by the authorities. By the time they busted down his apartment door, Valen was long gone, taking only his handgun, his poherma pipe, and enough poherma to last him a month (a very strong drug, you don't need to consume much for the effects) and a small pocket knife. Before they could set up any kind of perimeter, he escaped into a barren riverbed, hiding in a spot which was once a hidden fortress he had built during his childhood. The spot was very well hidden, the police had moved past it several times without even noticing it.

That year, with the discovery of a new habitable planet, the king ordered the construction of many spacecraft to make the voyage. The riverbed in which Valen hid was one that led straight to the station in which several of the first spacecrafts was set to launch during the next few days. Being the previous underling of the poherma kingpin Mago, the authorities gave him no chance to escape, they were crawling the streets looking for him, he would have to wait til nightfall to make his way towards the space station, a terrible idea yes, but it was his only route of escape. He sat there in his small fortress of rocks dirt and leaves contemplating the suicide mission he was about to embark on. He had nowhere left to turn, as soon as the sun faded from the sky, he left his safe haven and made his journey down the riverbed shrouded in trees.
